Police officers found that the detainee saw the victim buying parrots in one of the large pet stores, after which he followed her home and the next day pulled out the keys to her apartment on the bus. 

“Having penetrated inside, the“ fauna lover ”, together with the birds he liked, decided to grab money and jewelry. It was possible to calculate him by the cage with parrots: together with her he went to the pawnshop, where he handed over the jewelry, and to the store for alcohol. According to the detainee, his love for birds, as well as the lack of funds for their purchase, pushed him to kidnap parrots, ”the message says. 

The police opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Theft”. The suspect has been arrested. The parrots were returned to the owner.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that the families of children killed in Karelia will be paid by the Moscow authorities 1 million rubles each, reports the Moscow City News Agency. 

“Today I made a decision to pay financial assistance of 1 million rubles to relatives and parents of those killed and 300 thousand injured in this tragedy,” Sobyanin said.

Markin noted that Kovalenko and his subordinates during the year did not take any measures within their powers in relation to the management of Park-Hotel Syamozero LLC.
